Stained glass, gargoyles, stone masonry, illuminated manuscripts, pilgrimages, and much more feature as part of the Spires Academy Year 7 weekly trips to the cathedral since 2016. Initiated by teacher Diana Francis, the project has been a great success in familiarizing local pupils about the heritage of Canterbury Cathedral, a place many had never visited before.
At the end of the project the children have the opportunity to guide their parents around “their” cathedral and demonstrate all that they had learned over the course of the project. This is followed by a presentation of certificates and of artwork they have created for the project by the Dean and Headmaster.
