Student Conference and Teacher CPD
A day-long conference for students and teachers of philosophy hosted by The King’s School Canterbury in association with the University of Kent at Canterbury.
The conference is aimed at both teachers and their year 12 and 13 students of Philosophy and Religious Studies and represents an excellent opportunity for both groups to explore philosophical ideas on the different specifications and also to gain advice on how to ensure success in the exams.
Students will be have the opportunity to explore issues in greater depth under the guidance of expert academics in the fields of ethics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of mind andwill be able to develop their grasp of philosophical concepts and terminology through activities and games. Experienced examiners will also be present to give advice on how best to prepare for philosophy examinations and to offer tips on what examiners are looking for.
While students attend one stream of events, teachers are invited to attend professional development with philosophy lecturers from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC) to offer different perspectives on some of the central topics of study. Authors of text-books for 6th form studies in Philosophy will also be delivering sessions focusing on suggested teaching activities and how to deliver different aspects of the specifications. Various teaching resources will be made available to delegates to take away.
This represents an excellent opportunity both for staff and students to deepen their knowledge but also to engage in philosophical discussion and reasoning. There will also be an opportunity for students to prepare and give a presentation on a topic of their own choosing.
Attendance is offered free of charge and lunch and refreshments will also be provided in the historic surroundings of the Cathedral precincts.
