The Extraordinary Technologies Of The Modern Jet Engine
Dr Mike Percival, Global Head of Manufacturing Engineering at Rolls-Royce, will discuss some of the extraordinary technologies which make a modern jet engine work. From hollow titanium fan blades with an internal girder structure, to turbine blades which operate in gas above their own melting temperature and are each made of a single crystal of nickel.
He will also discuss how they assure the safety of their products, and the contribution made by all branches of “STEM”.
This talk is open to sixth form pupils from local schools and their parents/ carers and would be of particular interest to those thinking of studying engineering.
