This Introduction to Debating event is open to all students in year 9 and above and would suit those with little or no experience of debating.

This event is fully immersive and will outline what is involved in running a competitive pupil-led school debating society, including:

A general introduction to the British Parliamentary format (common at schools level)
A demonstration debate and judging feedback
Practicalities of attending external competitions
Brainstorming session – how to get it off the ground (staff)
Mini debates – (pupils)

One or two members of staff to attend with groups of four or eight students. 8 students is the optimum amount of students for a school to bring as it allows greater dissemination of information and a greater pool of experience when setting up your own debating society.

The event will take place in the Schoolroom at 2pm and we will aim to be finished by about 5.30pm. Detailed timings for the running order are to be confirmed.

Light refreshments will be available through the afternoon.

Please note there is no parking on site but there are many local car parks nearby the closest of which is at St Radigunds.
